This is the second year I've done this project inspired by Van Gogh's Irises. Deep Space Sparkle has a lovely, purchasable lesson on these. I purchased it, and it is one of the best products from Deep Space Sparkle in my opinion. Hey! I give props where props are due. She nails it with this lesson. The video is valuable to making this easy to teach.
I created a PPT to accompany this lesson. It gives some art history about Van Gogh and shows step by step how to draw irises. Don't worry about your student's drawings all looking the same. This tutorial doesn't create cookie-cutter drawings. Each student will find their iris-drawing vibe, and they will all be completely different. I've made this available for $9 on TpT. You can also find a lot of other Van Gogh resources in my TpT store. Be sure to check those out.
This post didn't start out as a Party in the Art Room TpT promo. I really just meant to share the awesome artwork my students created. However, I guess I can't pass up the chance to tell you about my resources. I really do use them to teach this lesson. They work for my classroom, and I think they would be an asset for other classrooms as well.
|These are the actual irises at my school. I didn't plant these, but I love that the kiddos can see these as they work on their own paintings.|
